Whiling away our last few hours in Amsterdam before transiting onto our next destination, we had about half a day to do just a few things before checking out of our hotel.

We haven’t spent much time shopping, because who needs more ”stuff” , but before we stopped in at Uniqlo’s shop at Leidsegracht, we found a stroopwafle shop.

If you’ve never had one, these are thin round waffle type biscuits made from two layers of sweet baked dough held together by a syrup  filling, usually caramel. Served warm with a gooey caramel center, it’s delicious. This shop had all kinds of toppings to add, but we wanted something basic. The best ones are made fresh while you wait.

After our stroopwafle and Uniqlo stops, we had just a bit of time left to go to Vondelpark, the largest city park in Amsterdam. With the blue skies and moderate temperatures, it was a day on which many found themselves relaxing at the park.

It’s a good walk back to the Leidseplein to catch a tram, and then to the hotel to finish packing, waiting out the last hour or so in the lounge, before taking our tram out.
