Trip 46

120 Fenchurch in the financial district has a scenic viewing platform on the 40th floor, which, on a clear (or relatively clear in our case) gives you a pretty panoramic view of the major landmarks in London. It’s the City of London’s largest public rooftop space – free to visit and no booking required. The Garden at 120 is located atop the Fen Court building at 120 Fenchurch Street with 360-degree views of the City and greater London.
From this perspective, you can see the Gherkin and The Walkie Talkie— both right there in front of you, so close you can practically see the office drones going about their business; you’ll also be able to spot the Shard.

There are gardens though…

We’ve also visited the nearby Sky Garden, which, today, had a long line.
In the midst of all of these towering buildings, just a block or so away, is Leadenhall Market. When I say “in the midst”, if you look up while having a pint in one of the Market’s pubs, you’ll see skyscrapers overhead. Leadenhall is both outdoors and covered. It opened in 1445 and is one of the oldest markets in London.

We did a little shopping, engaged in the great British tradition of sitting around having a pint and then worked our way back on the Tube to the Marylebone area for tea and scones at The Ivy.
